Dear Parents and
Players,
Welcome to the 2023/2024 hockey season!
For those who don’t know me, My name is Rachel Metcalfe, and I am very
excited and privileged to have been selected as the Head Coach for the
Northumberland Nighthawks U11A team this season. For those that do, welcome
back to the rink!
Hockey is truly a fun game, when all players collectively encourage each
other through thick and thin, good, and bad, it creates an effective and
positive team atmosphere.
From the start of the tryouts, the players will be evaluated from the
moment they arrive at the rink, to the moment they leave the rink. On-ice and
off-ice attitude, behavior and respect values will be a consideration in making
the Northumberland Nighthawks U11A team. Players should be able to show
commitment and desire to learn, be coachable and be able to trust the process.
This will lead to the overall success of the hockey season.
Single A Tryouts will be as followed:
1. May 4th, 2024, from 1:30pm until 3pm on the Pond
2. May 5th, 2024 from 1:30pm until 3pm on the Bowl

no later than 30 minutes prior to the scheduled start time. Players are expected
to wear the assigned jersey throughout the tryout process with no player
wearing the previous team’s jerseys at any time. Some players may be asked to sit out
for exhibition games. Those parents will be notified 24 hours prior to the
exhibition game and those players are still required to attend the exhibition
game.
The first, second skate along with the first two exhibition games will be
led by a coach volunteer of the NMHA while I along with other NMHA evaluators watch on. I will be using the input from all
evaluators, prior to making the final decision regarding team selection.
Releases will be made ONLINE no later than one hour after the SECOND
exhibition, two hours after the THIRD exhibition game with final
releases made no later than two hours after the FINAL exhibition game.
Please refer to the ‘Criteria for Player Selection” all
